Hi!

Has anyone tried Low Dose Naltrexone, or Revia ?  I am considering it.  It was on a Kliene Levin survey I took, (as a ‘have you ever tried any of the following’ list) .It was a drug I have not tried yet.

I cut and pasted this from Web MD:

“Naltrexone belongs to a class of drugs known as opiate antagonists. It works in the brain to prevent opiate effects (e.g., feelings of well-being, pain relief). It also decreases the desire to take opiates.”

ps, I do NOT have an opiate addiction...I only have Kleine Levin, asthma, restless leg syndrome, and orthostatic intolerence.

Love,

Hi Sunshine, Yes, my daughter has KLS and we tried Low Dose Naltrexone. The naturopath that we were seeing suggested that we try it thinking that if KLS was an autoimmune disorder, it might help awaken the autoimmune system. But we had no luck. As a matter of fact, it was a horrible experience. When my daughter did wake from a KLS episode while on the LDN, she could not fall asleep. She went five days without sleep. It was absolutely horrible. I remembered the pharmacist telling me that on very rare occasions, it could cause insomnia. Sure enough, the day we took her off the LDN, she got 5 hours of sleep, the next day she got 8 hours. So, I’m sure there was a connection to the LDN and insomnia. Also, it did not seem to help her out of an episode. LDN was no luck to us.

Another interesting event that occured during that episode was when she woke from the KLS episode, she and her dad went out for a walk. She twisted her ankle on the curb and fell. I picked them up in the car. By the time she got home her ankle was swelling. By evening we had to take her in to have it looked at because it was extremely swollen and we thought she had broke it (ice was not helping). Five days later she was put in a fracture boot and told to start physical thearapy in two weeks because the swelling still had not gone down. That day I took her off the LDN (because she could not sleep) and the swelling immediately went down. The next day her foot was normal in size. She also completely healed before two weeks came around and was walking 8 miles around the beach. I think the LDN was also preventing her from healing. Or maybe it was a combination of the LDN and KLS. At any rate, after I took her of the LDN, she both healed and was able to sleep. This was our experience. Diane
