Hi!

My mom and I have long suspected mine does. I seem to get worse in wet weather. High humidity, or when it rains. We thought perhaps changes in the barometer effected me, or maybe just made my asthma worse, and therefore made the KLS worse also.

We have yet to pinpoint the cause of these KLS episodes. But it seems like ANYTHING that aggravates my asthma (cigarette smoke, allergies, cold and flu infections, etc.) ALSO bring on a KLS eppisode.

So does antihysthamine, alchohol, novacain (or that thing the destist gives you when you need to get work done on your teeth).

One time, before we knew it was KLS, my mom took me to the emergency room when I had a KLS episode. The ER doctor said he had a “theory”, and asked my mom if he could give me a shot. He said it would ‘calm me down.’ She told him that I was not hysterical. My speech, motor skills and thinking were simply impaired. She told him we had been through all this before, it has nothing to do with psychology.

But he asked for our indulgence, on his ‘hunch’ anyway. We said ok, he gave me the shot. It did not fix my KLS episode, it put me to sleep. When I woke up, I was till experiencing KLS… I think it might have made me feel even worse....so, I think sedatives might negatively effect my KLS, too.

They tried Tegretol --sp on CG this time I also think it made him sleep more and definately made him feel worse. I did try melatonin and it did seem to make him rest more peacefully.

ps! I forgot; sometimes, if it’s too, too hot I get sleepy, weak, woozy, lightheaded, and I feel my heart beats...well, funny, for lack of a better way to describe it. When I get up too fast my vision goes away , then comes back.

I thought all of this was ‘Orthostatic Intollerence’ (a whole different illness)...but it DEFINATELY gets worse in hot, hot weather.  So, I thought I’d post in anyway, JUST IN CASE other KLS sufferers might experience the same thing.

Oooh! And I get the same thing in hot-tubs....the kind in resorts and hotels !!! ......I wish I didn’t!!!! Hot tubs look FUN !!!!  tongue laugh

Spring is definitely the time of year when I am most vunerable.  Even if I am not in an active episode, I seem to get physically ill.  I am much stronger and happier in the fall and can always tell when the fall conditions are just right for me.

You know, now that I think about it, Ty seems to sleep a lot more when it’s hot.  We’re in the Central Valley so it sits between 110 and 120 all summer.  We’re coming up on a year that his sleeping issues began (May 18th to be exact) and last summer was definitely the worst part of the year.  It was scary watching him sleep all summer and then wonder how he would ever make it through school.

Never even thought about the weather changes. I should go back and read through his blog and see where they occured the most.

Yep, Spring is the worst time for CG, we always notice him sleeping more, and being very irritable. All his spells have been in the spring except the one which was brought on by Chicken pox on January 1st.
